My Vision
My interest in photography began in high school and has carried me through the present. During high school, I took a beginner photography class and learned the basics of exposure and composition. I also learned how to print my own black and white photos in the darkroom. Seeing the image magically form on paper while dipping it in a tray of developer was truly amazing to me. Although my current darkroom is now digital, the images that appear on my computer monitor still amaze me.

I feel that while I embrace technology wholly, it is the person that makes the image not the technology. One must have the vision to see a photograph before it can be captured digitally or on film.
Some of my best images were envisioned in my mind before ever taking them with a camera. Photography to me is both a challenge and a spiritual quest. I have no better peace than when I'm out in the wild talking with nature. I always say "thank you" when I get a great image.

Having a vision also applies to capturing people's emotions on film. I believe my best images of people was a result of my inner vision. Knowing exactly when to press the shutter release can never be taught: It is only felt. Many have heard the old adage "a photograph is worth a thousand words". I strive to make my photography worth that much.

There are a lot of great photographers whom I admire. I hope to be as good as they are one of these days. You can see from my website that I don't specialize in one area of photography like most. One reason I enjoy photography so much is that there are so many different types of it. Shooting motorcycles racing by at 150mph+ is much different than shooting a wedding, but both can be challenging and fun. I feel that I grow as a photographer when I try new things, and thus learning how to capture images in new and different ways makes me a better photographer.

My Tools
I shoot 35mm film, digital, and medium format, utilizing Nikon and Contax cameras. I feel both these cameras are the best at what they do. Nikon and Carl Zeiss lenses allow me to capture the image as I see it.

I utilize Adobe Photoshop and a Mac G4 to help me store and prepare my images.

Based upon my customers' needs, I will either shoot 35mm (film or digital), or medium format.
